ENDODONTICS

It is one of the departments of dentistry that diagnoses diseases in teeth, tooth roots and surrounding tissues and deals with the cause, prevention and treatment of these diseases. Root canal treatment is applied in cases where the tooth and nerve community, which is called the pulp under the enamel and dentin layers, is damaged or benefited, becomes unable to repair itself and loses its vitality (necrosis). Endodontic treatment includes the treatment of toothache, dental abscesses, severe hot-cold sensitivity, discolored teeth and teeth damaged by trauma. The cocci canal treatment is the removal of inflamed or dead tooth pulp from the root canals, sterilization and cleaning and the complete process of this cavity with an inert substance that is not harmful to health. As a result of deep bruises, the pulp (vascular nerve package) cannot heal itself and the infection can reach the root tip. If root canal treatment is not applied to such a tooth, the inflammation that occurs at the root tip of the tooth in the future may damage the jawbone. As a result, surgical intervention or tooth extraction may be required. In summary, the purpose of endodontic treatment; To ensure that a tooth whose health is deteriorated is treated and kept in the mouth in an aesthetic and functional way.

Patients often refer to dentists with complaints of severe pain. Thanks to the local anesthetics and modern anesthesia techniques used, the endodontic treatments (root canal treatments) of the patients are terminated in a painless and extremely comfortable way.

Root canal treatment sessions and durations; Thanks to the development of technological imaging methods, the use of rotary (rotary device) systems, materials, ultrasonic and devices used during the filling of root canals, it can be completed in a single session, except for some special cases. The average duration of the procedure is 40-45 minutes. In most cases without severe bone infection, inflammation and abscess, root canal treatment is performed in a single session. In addition, the general health and systemic condition of the patient can also have an impact on the treatment sessions. We complete root canal treatments in two sessions in cases where infections do not go away and we cannot fully clean the root canals.

Following root canal treatment, tooth tenderness or pain during chewing may occur for a few days. This is a normal situation after root canal treatment. As a result of trauma or root canal treatment, teeth may turn brown, pink, or gray. If the cause of the discoloration is not trauma, root canal treatment is performed first and then bleaching is applied. If the discoloration occurs after root canal treatment, the tooth is examined by x-ray. If there is no problem in root canal treatment, bleaching is done. Otherwise, the root canal treatment is renewed first and then the whitening process is started.

The success rate in root canal treatments applied with the correct method by an endodontist reaches 98%. Root canal treatment is a method that can be applied by all dentists in our country and in the world. People who have postgraduate education on this subject are called Endodontists. Self-employed dentists work in collaboration with Endodontists and seek help whenever necessary, ensuring that their patients are treated in the best possible way.
